As loud as the morning sun shining bright after the night
she wakes me up with her excited Good Morning Hello’s
She names everything she manages to remember
my glasses, music, calling every smartphone an iPhone and dropping the ‘i’ after we say ‘no’
simple one word gestures lets us know what she wants
mirroring everything she sees
dancing, attention seeking, laughing along with us like she understands.
To her, every second is a chance to explore
flipping everything over so she doesn’t miss a spot incase she finds a toy
as adventurous as the playgrounds she climbs, slides or swings on
showing her independence as she plays movies on her own
watching the same scenes as if she’s seeing it for the first time
remembering every important character’s name
and the dance moves that go with those songs and rhymes.
she is as cheeky as her mother
she is as active as her father
she is as stubborn as her grandma
and eats everything as though she’s an adult.
she is as rough as a little boy
dresses feminine as a little girl
and hugs as affectionate as you need before and after you’ve cried.
she is beautiful
within two years
she’s opened my eyes
she will continue to change my definition of love
my world’s completely different
I am so grateful for having her in my life
